Scott
J. Stahl DVM, DABVP - Avian
Dr Stahl graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine in 1989. He became board certified in avian
medicine in 1996. Dr Stahl is currently an adjunct professor in
avian and exotic animal medicine at the Virginia Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a co-founder and former chief
of staff at the Eastern Exotic Veterinary Center where he served
the greater Washington, D.C. area for the past 16 years. Dr. Stahl
is an internationally renowned lecturer on reptilian medicine and
surgery and is the author of numerous book chapters and articles
on avian and exotic animal medicine and surgery.
David
A. Crum, DVM
Dr Crum received his Doctorate of
Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2002. He is
a former associate veterinarian at EEVC
where he did an exotic animal internship with Dr. Stahl. In 2006, Dr Crum completed his 2 year avian medicine residency here at SEAVS. He lectures
for local avian and exotic interest groups and is a board member for
the Mid-Atlantic Assn. of Avian Veterinarians. Dr Crum's professional
interests include both avian and ferret medicine and surgery. At home he cares for 1 dog, a cat, 1 ferret, 2 birds, 3 frogs and 4 lizards.
Scott Medlin, DVM
Scott is originally from the Midwest, calling Omaha, NE his hometown althou gh he is excited to make Washington, DC his new stomping grounds. Prior to vet school, Scott worked for two years in small animal and exotic animal pet medicine as a veterinary assistant and spent two years in primate research at the Wisconsin Primate Research Center. He has had a long term interest in exotics, with a special interest in reptiles and big cats. He is currently pursuing his internship in exotic animal medicine here at SEAVS following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2009. He hopes to eventually become board certified in either Avian or Zoo medicine. His flock at home has recently thinned a bit, but he now keeps 3 cats, 3 curly hair tarantulas, a red tail boa, and a little betta fish.
Jen
Hutchins, LVT
Jennifer graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in 1994. She did an externship with Dr Stahl prior to graduation and has worked with him and exotic animals ever since. Jennifer has been practice manager here at SEAVS since we opened in 2003. At home, she cares
for 3 dogs, a cat, a macaw, 2 budgies, 1ball python, 2 tortoises, 3 tarantulas, 3 guinea pigs, 2 leopard geckos, a leaf -tail gecko, 13 betas, and 2 kids.
Alison Szalkowski-Smith, RN
Alison began working as a veterinary technician in 1994. She has worked with many kinds of animals over the past 15 years, but has a special place in her heart for exotics. Alison also volunteered with the Marine Animal Rescue Team at the National Aquarium in Baltimore from 1995-1997 where she helped rehabilitate many seals, dolphins and sea turtles. Alison graduated from Fredrick Community College nursing school in 2003 and now is pursuing her nurse practitioner’s license. She currently lives with 3 cats, Streaks, Isabella and Macy , a Cuban rock iguana named Ethel, and a scarlett macaw, Sunshine.
Alissa Pritchard, LVT
Alissa graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in 2004. She has been working professionally in veterinary medicine ever since and has a lifetime of experience with animals from her vast array of pets. Alissa has always taken in sick and neglected animals and currently lives with 3 rats, 2 monitors, a bourke's parakeet, 2 canarys, a water dragon, 3 leopard geckos, a crested gecko, a white spot gecko, a king snake, a chameleolis and a cat. Alissa loves reptiles, but is affectionately known as “Rat Girl” reflecting her strong interest in rat husbandry and rehabilitation.
Anibal Armendaris, LVT
Anibal graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in May 2007. He has been interested in exotic animals most of his life and has worked with them professionally since he started working at SEAVS in 2005. . Throughout his life he has had the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world to study and observe a wide variety of exotic animal species in their natural environment. Anibal lives with a corn snake, a ball python, a central american boa, a dummerils boa, a jaya carpet python and 3 tarantulas.
Danya Mandery
Danya has been working in small animal veterinary medicine since 1997. Her specialty was client communication and she managed a large reception staff. She also helped out with local pit bull rescue leagues.Danya decided to come work with us here at SEAVS in 2005 in order to get more experience with exotic animals. She has been a huge asset to us here at SEAVS and has taken over as our reception manager. At home, Danya lives with her american bull dog, a cat, a sand boa, a red foot tortoise, a crested gecko, a hognose snake, a hamster and a ball python.
Kathy Bafkas
Kathy graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006 with a B.S. in Animal Science. She did an internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore and with Dr William Hare at the USDA/BARC in Beltsville, MD where she assisted with C-sections of cloned calves. Kathy worked as veterinary technician for 6 years at a small animal practice in MD before coming to SEAVS in 2006. She also worked on an educational farm/nature center giving livestock and wildlife presentations to visitors. At home, Kathy lives with her American bulldog Bull, a bulldog Cookie, a frilled lizard (with 3 legs), a greek tortoise, a quaker parrot, a senegal parrot, a double yellow headed amazon, 5 lovebirds, 1 budgie and a baby crested gecko
Zack Romeo
Zack worked with Dr Stahl and Jen at EEVC and joined us here at SEAVS in 2008. He is a great 'people person' and loves to teach clients how to care for their exotic pets. He has been working with exotic animals since he started as a veterinary assistant in 2001, and then worked his way up to exotic animal technician in 2003. During this time, he received his General Studies degree at NVCC and is now pursuing a degree in psychology. . Zack shares his home with his two cats, Sushi and Buddha.
Arialle Cordoba
Arialle currently attends George Mason University where she is pursuing a degree in biology. She hopes to finish her degree and apply to vet school in the future. Arialle started working at SEAVS in 2008 as an assistant and receptionist. For the past year she has cared for and managed Dr Stahl's reptile collection. She shares her home with a timneh gray, a pionus parrot, a dog and a NEW BABY BOY!!! Congratulations Arialle!
